Fukui plums, with a history as old as 150 years since the Tenpo period, are the specialty of the Mikata Five Lake area. The two major breeds, Benisashi and Kensaki, are both mostly used for pickled plums and highly acclaimed across the nation for the small seed, soft and meaty fruit, and delicious taste.
